In the cement industry, the rotary kiln is the core equipment, responsible for the high-temperature chemical transformation of raw materials into clinker, which is the main component of cement. This huge rotating cylinder is often referred to as the "heart" of a cement plant. It subjectes a mixture of limestone, clay, and shale to extreme high temperatures, thereby triggering a chemical reaction that forms the basic binding properties of cement.
1.From Raw Meal to Clinker
Limestone and clay are ground into a fine powder called raw meal, then fed into the upper end of a slowly rotating kiln. As the kiln turns, the material moves gradually toward the heat source at the lower end.
2. Calcination Process
Inside the kiln, the raw meal passes through zones of rising temperature, reaching up to 2000°C. At this temperature, limestone decomposes into calcium oxide and carbon dioxide.
3. Ensuring Uniform Quality
The calcium oxide then reacts with other elements from clay and shale to form new compounds. The final product is clinker—small, hard lumps used to make cement. Continuous rotation ensures uniform heating and consistent clinker quality.
The cylinder of the rotary kiln is made of high-quality killed steel plate, and the customer can flexibly control the axial movement of the cylinder.
01The transmission rotates the cylinder at a required rotational speed through a ring gear provided in the middle of the cylinder.
02The larger rotary kiln is equipped with an auxiliary transmission that rotates the cylinder at a very low speed to meet installation and maintenance needs.
03In order to prevent cold air from entering and flue gas dust from overflowing the cylinder, reliable kiln tail and kiln head sealing devices are provided at the feeding end and the discharging end of the cylinder.
